Tumaini Health

Offering hope through better health

About Us

We are a UK based Christian organization established in 2011 to build, equip and run a health centre to provide strategic and diagnostic health care to the residents of Rwika, Kenya. About two hours away north east of Nairobi, Rwika is a rural community of mainly small scale farmers with many basic health needs.

The project is being is being run by John Itumu, the vicar of St Catharine's Gloucester, Kevin Howie, also of St Catharine's, and David Vivian of St Gabriel's, Cricklewood.

Tumaini Christian Health Centre has been borne through prayer and many coincidental opportunities (or some may say God incidences!!). John and his wife Elizabeth, who hail from Rwika, first started praying for opportunities for their Family's land a few years ago. They wanted to do something that would honour and carry on John's parents' commitment of life long service to their community. The idea of a health centre became the priority.

In March 2011, John and David went to Rwika for a long planned holiday. On returning to the UK, David had a sense that the trip had been so much more than a holiday, and God was calling him into a long term relationship with Rwika that would make a real and sustained difference.

Following much prayer and discussion this sense started to solidify, and we felt that we were indeed being called to provide a much needed medical facility to provide diagnostic and strategic health care.

During this time, God miraculously provided us with Kevin who had long planned to take a year's sabbatical to serve God, and was finally prompted to take action this year following John's sermon on taking risks for God. Again there was a real sense to get out there and do something that would make a difference to people's lives.

John, Kevin, and Kevin's wife Rachel finally visited Rwika in November 2011 to talk to the village leaders about the project, and start putting in place the networks we will need to make God's vision a reality. Tumaini Christian Health Centre finally came into being.
